Foschini Group takes control of mobility with CA Southern Africa

The Foschini Group (TFG) has selected CA's Enterprise Mobility Management Suite to manage mobile devices accessing its corporate systems and information, allowing it to maximise the benefits of mobility while mitigating the risks.

TFG consists of 17 retail brands that cover clothing, footwear, jewellery, sportswear, mobile phones and technology products and home stores. The group trades from over 2 100 stores, including Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique and Nigeria, making it the foremost fashion and lifestyle retailer in Africa.

CA Southern Africa account manager, Craig de Lucchi, says that, like many companies, TFG has recognised that mobility is a game-changer, particularly when it comes to employee productivity and customer interaction, and that "bring your own device" has become a permanent feature of the corporate landscape. "By implementing CA's Enterprise Mobility Management Suite, TFG is ensuring a controlled approach to managing personal devices used for business, which minimises any potential downside, while employees are still empowered to use their preferred technology."

According to TFG's Head of Information Security, Kevin Day, as mobile devices are always at risk of theft or loss, TFG sought to protect its corporate information on mobile devices, using technology to enforce its information security controls and standards. "At the same time, the company wanted to ensure that information is readily available to personnel when and where required. With CA's Enterprise Mobility Management Suite, TFG is able to ensure good governance, achieve process efficiencies and comply with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements," says Day.

De Lucchi says further criteria include the ability to support the large variety of mobile device technologies being used by TFG staff, including BlackBerry, iPhone, Android and Windows handsets. "The company wanted effective full life cycle management of all mobile devices, operating systems and form factors currently supported by its technology department. It was also a given that the technology should be intuitive, easy to use and offer the ability for cloud or on-premises hosting," says De Lucchi.

That is a demanding wish list, especially given the complexity of TFG's mobile environment, agrees De Lucchi. "CA's Enterprise Mobility Management Suite delivers against these requirements. It is a platform for the secure management of the mobile devices, which are becoming essential tools in the workplace."
