Kanagaratnam "Lambo" Lambotharan is stepping down as chief enterprise officer of MTN SA to pursue other interests.

MTN SA's chief enterprise officer Kanagaratnam "Lambo" Lambotharan is leaving the company after having been with the operator for almost 15 years, under different designations.

The operator said in a statement today that Lambotharan was leaving MTN to "pursue interests outside of the business".

MTN SA has appointed Alpheus Mangale - formerly MD of Cisco's South African operation - in Lambotharan's place, effective 1 December.

Mangale has over 18 years' experience in the ICT, enterprises and public sector industries spanning Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He previously spent 15 years at Dimension Data, where he led the group's overall technology strategy and marketing function - as well as all strategic business alliances for, among others, Microsoft, HP and EMC.

During his tenure at Cisco, Mangale led the company's engagements across private and public sector markets. He was also responsible for the company's overall country transformation strategy with service providers and government leaders.

MTN SA CEO Ahmed Farroukh says the company is "pleased to have someone of Mangale's calibre in our management team".

Lambotharan has been with MTN since 1999. He was chief technology officer at MTN SA from October 2010, until being appointed chief enterprise officer last year June.

Prior to that he held the position of GM for network planning, GM for group technology at MTN Group Management Services and CTO at MTN Irancell.
