Connet Systems awarded CIPC tender

Pretoria, 10 Dec 2014

Connet Systems has been awarded a tender from The Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC) for the elaborate development of an unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) platform that would ease the process from Web/telephonic to mobile enquiry.

USSD is a live two-way interaction service that allows you to display a menu on a user's handset and enables the user to interact with this menu. Connet Systems is required to develop and deploy a CIPC USSD application and enable the reporting thereof.

The developed platform will cater for both once-off requests and interactive navigation, with a menu-based application. The mobile-based platform will cater for navigations from enquiring on current enterprise status to mobile surveys and the status of name reservation.

When Connet Systems were bumped up to a level four BEE status, the opportunity for business development through bidding became even more of a golden opportunity. During the month of July, the bid documents were submitted and the waiting started. On 16 September, Connet Systems received the letter of award from the CIPC. Out of a final short-list of four possible companies, Connet Systems proved a cut above the rest.

Shortly thereafter, meetings were held to discuss the elaborate nature of the platform. The platform comprises two phases, the first phase includes the enquiry on director, auditor, closed corporation status and possible amendments; phase two will include an annual returns calculator, information on liquidations as well deregistration and re-instatement of enterprises.

During phase one, prospective entities can find out how to register a company, what the status of a current application is, or even instructions on how to print a registration certificate. Phase two will provide entities with information on due dates for annual returns and any other corporation amendments, such as how to change the name of the entity or even change the details of the accounting officer. All changes are recorded and converted to a cleverly-developed mechanism.

In addition, various validation mechanisms will be implemented to protect current enterprise information on the CIPC system and ensure a high level of security. This will tie up with the security promise of Connet Systems, where we are continuously looking for ways to enhance our security. Security audits are conducted at regular intervals. Concerns are identified in these audits and are then applied in an iterative process in order to minimise resistance and maximise conformance.

COO of Connet Systems, Frank de Graaf, states: "We are looking forward to this endeavour with CIPC in 2015 and trust that this unique platform will not only pave the way for similar endeavours, but will also change the face of mobile communication for government entities."
