Facebook at Work, the social media giant's newly-developed corporate service, has gone into test phase with selected pilot partners.

The company today announced it is beginning to test Facebook at Work with a few partners. "The app will be visible in iOS and Android app stores and accessible to pilot partners only."

Facebook describes the service as "a separate experience that gives employees the ability to connect and collaborate using Facebook tools - many they're likely already using, such as News Feed, Groups, messages and events.

"Co-workers can stay in touch with each other in the same way they stay in touch with friends and family via Facebook. Facebook at Work offers the familiar look and feel as Facebook and has the same tools."

The service was created completely for use within a company. "That means employees' Facebook at Work info is safe, secure, confidential and completely separate from their personal Facebook profile. The info shared among employees is only accessible to people in the company."

Facebook says it will garner feedback from its pilot partners to the end of building "the best possible product for them and their employees".

News of Facebook at Work, which is expected to compete with the likes of LinkedIn, emerged in November.

Considering it already has 1.35 billion monthly users and the upper hand in online sharing and collaboration, analysts believe Facebook could take on not only LinkedIn, but the entire enterprise cloud computing market.
