The South African Innovation Network (SAINe) has appointed Khathutshelo Mashau as its new vice-chairperson.
Mashau brings to this position a wealth of experience and expertise, says the network. He is founder of Nunnovation, a digital innovation platform in Africa, and his networks, exposure and understanding of the landscape of innovation in Africa will benefit SAINe.
According to Mashau, SAINe is focused on creating an effective network of innovators across southern Africa, which would be achieved through creating strong networks with like-minded and complementary institutions. Creating networks is solely the work of the vice-chairperson and it includes engaging with members to better understand their needs and what value SAINe can add in their businesses.
"My immediate goal is to establish sustainable networks with government, corporates and academic institution, such that we all have a common understanding on developing a culture of innovation in society," says Mashau.
"This would see a sustained growth in regional economies and a rise in entrepreneurship," he continues.
Mashau is a qualified mechanical engineer and holds a master's degree in innovation, which he obtained at York St John University in the UK. He has been an enterprise developer and entrepreneur for over 15 years.
He says any organisation has inbred cultures that often hinder growth. "Identifying and changing these culture within SAINe and its members is a worthy challenge that I'm anticipating and willing to face," he continues.
