South African Square Kilometre Array Project
The SKA Project, which includes the construction of the MeerKAT radio telescope in the Karoo, is a project of the Department of Science and Technology, executed through the National Research Foundation and the SKA SA. EDTA invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced service providers to design, develop and maintain the Centralised Integrated Database (CISD). The request for EOI is intended to garner information to compile the terms of reference for the design, development and management of a Centralised Integrated Statistical Database for the department.
Summary of activities: The department requires up-to-date socio-economic data to effectively track and evaluate the implementation of government policy interventions in the province. This can be realised through the collection, analysis and interpretation of accurate and timely statistics. The type of statistics referred to is categorised into eight modules, which include:
* Administrative data: data of businesses that operate within the province, including JSE-listed companies. The publication of a provincial institutional sector classification guide on a regular basis is envisaged;
* Economic data:real sector, public sector, balance of payment (trade) and financial sector information for the province;
* Social data:standard of living conditions, poverty and inequality in the province;
* Labour data:information pertaining to the labour market in the province;
* Informal economydata: detailed operations and locations of small businesses and co-operatives in the provincial economy, covering aspects such as types of business, registration, location, owners and employees;
* Tourism data:tourist movement in the province, including arrivals and departures;
* Environmental management data:key issues of conservation, biodiversity and related matters; and
* Project data:information on all the projects driven by the department and other key projects outside the department.
