Cloud visibility has become a serious issue, with recent research revealing that 86% of cloud applications being used in the enterprise are unsanctioned by the technical department.

Research has also revealed that 78% of enterprises say they have a need for better governance and visibility tools for cloud applications, says Pravin Kothari, founder and CEO of CipherCloud, a cloud visibility and data protection provider.

With this in mind, CipherCloud has introduced Cloud Discovery Enterprise Edition to bring comprehensive visibility, risk scoring, and actionable intelligence across all cloud applications in the corporate ecosystem.

Unveiled at RSA Conference 2015 in San Francisco yesterday, the product allows organisations to gain visibility into their cloud usage, protect their sensitive data, enforce security policies and monitor user activities.

He says the need for better cloud visibility is driving enterprises towards a platform approach that unites discovery and monitoring. "In response to a cloud security requirements survey, enterprises identified three top technologies for integration into a cloud discovery suite: 70% cited data leakage prevention, 56% required user-activity monitoring and 55% needed data-access reporting as part of the discovery and monitoring functions."

Kothari says the extent of shadow IT indicates a gap in detection, the first step in the mitigation process. "With this latest addition to our platform, we are enabling enterprises to gain deeper visibility and control in the cloud."

Cloud Discovery Enterprise Edition offers several features, namely data breach avoidance, cloud application consolidation and enablement of agility, flexibility and governance.
