World-record-holding adventurer Rainer Zietlow and his team will attempt to drive a fully IT-enabled car from Cape Agulhas in South Africa to Norway's North Cape, to investigate the capability of the Internet of things (IOT) and big data analytics.

The trip will commence 11 September and will cross 21 countries and cover 19 000km. The team hopes to finish the trip in nine days.

During and after, IOT sensory data, along with big data analysis performed by HP and based on Intel data centre and IOT technologies, are intended to give answers to a wide variety of questions.

The topics covered might include:

* How do the drivers react physically to such extreme strain?
* How does this influence their driving behaviour?
* Which streets are in most urgent need of repair?
* How to identify the type of road as well as potholes and speed bumps?
* How effectively can the car data security as well as the security of the team and its expedition vehicle be guaranteed along the way?

Last year, the team attempted the same journey the other way round, starting in Norway. However, an accident in Ethiopia ended the trip prematurely.
