Altech Autopage MD Boyd Chislett says new contracts can still be taken out and existing ones renewed.

Altech Autopage assures customers it is business as usual despite the company agreeing to sell its mobile subscriber base to SA's leading telecoms operators.

"New contracts may be taken out and existing ones renewed on any of the networks. Our retail stores, customer services and call centre teams continue to assist our customers on a daily basis," according to Altech Autopage MD Boyd Chislett.

Autopage's parent company, Altron, announced in May that it was in negotiations to dispose of Altech Autopage's mobile subscriber base. In September, it disclosed it had agreed to sell the subscriber base to Cell C, MTN and Vodacom for almost R1.5 billion.

The transactions are at the Competition Commission for adjudication. Chislett says a project team is working hard to ensure a smooth transition for Altech Autopage customers should the transaction be approved.

"A transaction of this magnitude must go through the Competition Commission, a regulatory body responsible for the investigation, control, evaluation and approval business sales and mergers. The process is a lengthy one, as every detail of the transaction must be disclosed according to a strict timeline," Autopage says in a statement.

When announcing its interim results last month, Altron said it expected regulatory approvals to be achieved and the migration of subscribers to be completed by February 2016.

Autopage is an independent service provider offering packages and services across Cell C, MTN and Vodacom.
