Facebook enhances its News Feed to operate well, regardless of device or network connection.

To improve Facebook users' experience with slow connections, the social network will only show relevant news stories and let users compose comments while offline.

"Our mission with News Feed is to connect people with the stories that matter most to them, but if people's News Feeds aren't loading because of poor Internet connection, we can't show them the most relevant stories," wrote Chris Marra, News Feed product manager, and Alex Sourov, engineering manager, in a blog post.

"People are coming online at a staggering rate in emerging markets and, in most cases, they are doing so on mobile via 2G connections. To improve News Feed so it works seamlessly and quickly for people in all parts of the world, we're focused on designing News Feed to operate well regardless of device or network connection."

In the past, if Facebook users were on a poor Internet connection, or had no Internet connection, they needed to wait for stories to load when opening News Feed.

"We are now testing an update where we look at all of the previously downloaded stories present on your phone that you have not yet viewed, and rank them based on their relevance," explained the team.

Facebook will also allow users to compose and store comments on stories without an Internet connection. The comment will be posted whenever there is a connection again.
