2016 is set to be another game-changing year for enterprise mobility.

In 2016 we can expect to see faster and better mobile devices becoming more essential in all aspects of our lives, says Paulo Ferreira, Director of Enterprise Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

On this note, Samsung, in partnership with ITWeb, is conducting an online Mobile Strategy survey during January to gain valuable insight into the mobile strategies within South African organisations.

Ferreira believes that 2016 will see a number of mobility trends come to the fore in South Africa. More devices will come into play as users are expected to increase their device ownership, he says.

He points out that due to the screen-size preference change, the 'phablet' is expected to remain the fastest-growing mobile segment in 2016 and Ferreira says that by 2017 phablets are expected to have cornered 50% of the enterprise market.

Another trend set to gain prominence users buying accessories such as keyboards and covers. Also connectivity speeds will increase, says Ferreira, as manufacturers continue to push connectivity speed.

He adds that processing power will improve as multicore processing will move well beyond the norm of 4GB or RAM, which will empower users to do more on their mobiles.

As the need for mobility reaches more industry segments, Ferreira points out that ruggedised device demand is growing.

Wearables gain traction

While wearable technology has been available for some time, according to Ferreira the demand is expected to surge from 2016 as users demand hands-free functionality and wearable tracking becomes more popular.

Ferreira says with the connected home appliance trend picking up, the mobile device has become increasingly important as the smart home remote control and management tool also.

Mobile devices are increasingly becoming a part of the overall entertainment environment, says Ferreira, therefore mobile is set to integrate more closely with entertainment.

2016 is set to be another game-changing year for enterprise mobility, he.
