Fifty ICASA employees embarked on a protected strike this morning.

Some 50 employees at the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) have downed tools and gathered outside the regulator's offices to embark on strike action.

ICASA spokesperson Paseka Maleka told ITWeb the strike was planned and there was communication between the regulator and its employees prior to the strike.

"This is a protected strike and staff have received a certificate from the CCMA to embark on this industrial action," he says.

However, Maleka did not reveal why employees have gone on strike and when they can be expected to go back to work.

He adds: "ICASA would like to assure all stakeholders that operations will still continue and that we intend to resolve all staff issues on an expedited basis to ensure business is back to normal as soon as possible."
