MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., 23 Sep 2016
Tintri, a leading producer of VM-aware storage (VAS) for virtualisation and cloud environments, today announced a series of offerings and milestones that simplify storage and migration of VMs and management of Microsoft Hyper-V environments. Through tighter integration, organisations can more readily deploy and manage Microsoft applications on VM-aware storage.
Tintri has expanded its Microsoft relationship in the last year. The company recently achieved certification in the Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track programme and joined the Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Alliance, reinforcing its commitment to deliver VAS solutions integrated with Microsoft products for cloud-based environments.
Tintri also earned the only Microsoft Gold-level data centre competency among next-generation storage companies, recognising its best-in-class capability within the Microsoft Partner Network.
"Tintri is the best storage for organisations using Hyper-V - including virtual machines running Microsoft Windows and Microsoft applications like SQL Server and Exchange," said Kieran Harty, CTO and co-founder of Tintri. "Organisations that use Hyper-V - even concurrently with other hypervisors - turn to Tintri when they want more performance and less management burden for their virtualised workloads. They build private clouds on their choice(s) of hypervisor for their applications, without the limitations of traditional storage."
Tintri at Microsoft Ignite 2016
Tintri will exhibit in booth #1726 at the Microsoft Ignite 2016 Conference, from 26-30 September, in Atlanta. The company will demo its all-flash and hybrid-flash VM-aware storage arrays supporting Microsoft Windows VMs and virtualised Microsoft applications, including Exchange, SharePoint and SQL Server on vSphere and Hyper-V platforms.
Tintri Support for virtualised Microsoft Windows, Microsoft applications
Tintri is certified for the latest Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 environments and for Microsoft applications. Tintri will also support Microsoft Windows 2016 when it is released later this year as an operating system for virtual machines and for Hyper-V 2016. Tintri's support for virtualised Microsoft applications includes Always On Availability Groups (AAG) with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and higher.
New Tintri features simplify migration to and management of Hyper-V environments
Tintri continues to expand its Hyper-V storage capabilities and virtualisation integration to ensure joint customers can automate management and easily scale to keep up with business and data growth. At the Ignite event, the company will preview a VMware to Hyper-V conversion toolkit to make the migration process seamless for customers and their data. Additional Tintri demos will showcase the ease of management of Hyper-V environments and Microsoft applications:
- Hyper-V ODX Support - Tintri is adding offloaded data transfer (ODX) capabilities to its Hyper-V feature set to allow Hyper-V storage live migrations to be offloaded from the VM host to Tintri storage devices, improving performance and efficiency. ODX support will also complement Tintri VM Scale-Out technology, which optimises VM resources across pools of multiple Tintri VMstore storage arrays.
- Tintri SCVMM Add-in - This integration enables cloud administrators who are building an on-premises Microsoft cloud to manage their Tintri storage as part of a unified infrastructure directly from the System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) console. Customers can view Tintri predictive analytics to optimise capacity and performance and perform Tintri storage specific actions from within SCVMM.
- Tintri SCOM Management Pack - This capability makes it easier for administrators to access Tintri metrics and alerts as a part of infrastructure monitoring through the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) platform. Customers use SCOM for operations in Hyper-V environments and can collect metrics and alerts from Tintri, create filters for the data and trigger custom actions.
Joint customer success
The number of Hyper-V virtual machines stored on Tintri VMstores globally continues to expand, with customers that span financial services, technology, healthcare, manufacturing, government and more. Joint customers include consulting and capital funding provider Life-Sciences Innovation, which recently migrated to Hyper-V utilising Tintri for its storage needs.
"The ability to easily and quickly move VMs around in an environment where everything is very fluid is a great benefit. Before we knew it, we had moved our entire workload and all of our virtual servers onto Tintri with Hyper-V. Since then, the two technologies have worked together seamlessly to save us money and greatly improve our IT efficiency," said Tim Starkenburg, systems administrator, Life-Sciences Innovation.
Other joint customers such as MetaBank, MVision and Orlando Health are running Hyper-V on Tintri to manage mixed workloads - server, VDI, private cloud and development and test - including business-critical Microsoft applications, such as SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint concurrently across multiple hypervisors.
"SQL queries that used to take six hours now take four minutes - this has greatly improved customer satisfaction," according to Glen Kendell, president of Hosting and Operations for Concourse Hosting.
