Netgear expands Orbi Home Tri-band WiFi System

Johannesburg, 29 Jun 2017

Netgear has expanded its award-winning Orbi Home Tri-band WiFi System with two new offerings targeted at applications in small to mid-sized homes. The Orbi RKB30 and RKB40, which complement Netgear's existing Orbi RBK50 system, also feature its patented 'industry-first' tri-band architecture.

"WiFi reception in the home is now considered to be as critical as the plumbing and electricity supply," says Tobie van Schalkwyk, business development manager at local Netgear distributor Duxbury Networking.

"Improving WiFi reception to facilitate streaming 4K HD video content or other bandwidth-intensive multi-media is achieved by eliminating dead zones wherever they are found - be they on the patio, in the basement, the garage, back yard or garden - and simultaneously boosting Internet speeds.

The new Orbi RKB30 and RKB40 systems, which feature AC2200 WiFi with speeds up to 2.2Gbps, are faster than competitive products with legacy AC1200 WiFi and are therefore ideal for an even broader range of households and home environments; from apartments to family homes and sprawling estates.

"The two new systems - which cover areas of around 300 and 400 square metres respectively - include dedicated 5GHz wireless connections between their router and satellite units to provide both reliable WiFi coverage and higher maximum speeds," notes Van Schalkwyk.

"At Duxbury Networking, we realise that a significant number of consumers prefer the flexibility of a wall-plug form factor, especially when placed in common areas such as hallways and kitchens. The new RBK30 addresses this requirement," he adds.

From a technical perspective, the new Orbi systems deliver 802.11ac AC2200 WiFi and feature simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi on the router and satellite unit for connecting all home devices under one WiFi name (SSID).

The systems, which feature new form factors in order to give users more choice when it comes to style, flexibility and coverage, come pre-paired and configured. They include advanced WiFi security with automated updates, WPS-protected setup, 64/128 bit WEP; WPA/WPA-2 PSK, WPA/WPA-2 Enterprise.

Support for advanced router features, such as IPv6, dynamic DNS, port forwarding, parental controls, Virtual Private Network (VPN) termination and access point mode, is standard while firmware auto-updates ensure users receive the latest security and software upgrades as they appear.
