Visual storage company Eezy Developments has introduced what it claims is SA's first visual storage app, Eezyfile.

According to Eezy Developments, Eezyfile is a multipurpose visual storage app that allows users to take a snapshot of important documents such as passports, IDs, birth certificates and driver's licences, and save and share the documents on the app.

The company says the app is the first mobile interface in SA that enables users to capture, file and tag documents and images in an organised manner, allowing users to easily access the documents at a later stage. The app uses the Microsoft .Net platform ecosystem, utilising Azure and Xamarin platforms to deliver its services and applications.

Friedel Weihe, founder of Eezy Developments, and the mastermind behind Eezyfile, explains: "Eezyfile is your personal assistant to handle all of life's nuances. It combines organisation and strong search capabilities in one package. Each document is tagged under various headings that you select, acting as a secure album to keep your thoughts, documents and images organised."

The app servers and database are hosted on Microsoft Azure cloud which provides services such as snapshots, backups and fault tolerance.

Explaining how it works, Weihe says users start by either snapping a few photos or selecting images from the phone gallery, then they name the file, which is created and saved individually on the app.

Optionally, one can set a reminder with a date for an expiring document like a driver's licence and then tag by categorising under document and licence. When searching for a file, one can either search for the tagged categories or by typing the name of the document, he adds.

"This app bridges the gap between our electronic interface and old-style paper documents. Storing a picture of your warranty receipts on EezyFile not only ensures you never lose your documents, but it also reminds you when your warranty is about to expire," Weihe points out.

The development of the app, which is currently only available on Android, was inspired by Weihe's constant frustrations with misplaced documents.

"Since filing is not my strength, I tend to snap a picture of anything of interest, from products to keeping a copy of my warranties. The problem was finding the images in my phone gallery. We then set about to create a system to do this as easily as possible with a very powerful search engine."

The app is developed by local software development company, Agnomen. Eezy Developments is expecting to launch the iOS version of the app before the end of the year.
