MiX appoints Roji-Maplanka as director

Fleet and mobile asset management solutions firm MiX Telematics has appointed Fundiswa Roji-Maplanka CA (SA) as an independent non-executive director and a member of its audit and risk, and social and ethics committees.

In her new role, Roji-Maplanka, a qualified chartered accountant, will be responsible for contributing independent views, strategic direction and consultancy to the board. She will also assist in risk management and bring new relationships and contacts.

Previously a non-executive director of MiX Telematics from August 2007 to November 2014, Roji-Maplanka is founding partner of investment holding company Dlondlobala Capital, which she co-founded in 2015. She has experience in finance, audit, corporate governance, strategy, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, investment management, and investor relations.

MiX Telematics says given her expertise in the market, high-level business acumen and sound reputation, she is well placed to provide solid business direction and support at board level, as well as drive valuable input in the areas of finance, audit, corporate governance, strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations.

Robin Frew, chairman of MiX Telematics, says: "As a member of the audit and risk, as well as social and ethics committees, the MiX board of directors believe she is a highly valuable addition to the already strong leadership team and, through her expertise, will be able to deliver best practice direction and support in these areas – with an independent view of the market at large.

"Such input is critical from a corporate governance perspective and as an organisation, we are proud to have such a skilled, successful woman join our board."

According to MiX Telematics, globally, the year-on-year projected number of fleet vehicles on the road is set to rapidly increase. It was projected that from 2013 to 2018 there will be a global growth of 22.8% in the fleet management market alone – given the major boom in emerging economies.

However, there is certain market volatility within the African market which is underpinned by a series of challenges affecting growth and sustainability. Through its fleet telematics, the company says it has a solid role to play in supporting businesses manage such challenges.

Before establishing Dlondlobala Capital, Roji-Maplanka was a senior manager responsible for strategy and investor relations at Imperial until the end of 2014. Prior to joining Imperial, she worked for over a decade at Kagiso Trust Investments, and later at Kagiso Tiso as a director of investments.

During her tenure at Kagiso Trust Investments, she sat on various boards across industries, including Macsteel, Bytes Technology Group, Multotec, UTI Pharma and Universal Print Group.

She also served as a non-executive director of the South African Venture Capital Association and currently sits on the boards of the various non-profit organisations that focus on youth, education and health.
