Sun files $120m loss on the hush

After the stock market closed on Friday, server and operating system maker Sun Microsystems snuck out its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2010, reports The Register. Revenue fell 25%, to $2.24 billion.

Sales have been hammered by the uncertainty surrounding the fate of Sun's products as the $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun by Oracle is held up by European anti-trust regulators. However, through deep cost cutting, Sun was able to report a mere $120 million loss in the quarter, a far cry better than the $1.68 billion loss it booked in the year-ago quarter.

As has been the case since the Oracle deal was announced, neither hide nor hair of Sun's top brass - chairman Scott McNealy, president and CEO Jonathan Schwartz, and CFO Mike Lehman - were to be seen.

"This joint venture is based on the full commitment of Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom to a long-term partnership," says Timotheus Hoettges, CFO at Deutsche Telekom.

iPhone worm is never gonna give you up

Reports started spreading this weekend that iPhone users in Australia had been falling victim to "ikee", a worm that replaces default wallpaper with a picture of Rick Astley.

The British pop singer and his song "Never Gonna Give You Up" have gained eternal infamy thanks to the mainstreaming of the "Rickrolling" prank craze, reports CNet.

The photo is accompanied by the message "ikee is never gonna give you up" and it's apparently quite difficult to remove. According to security firm Sophos, this is the first worm detected that targets the iPhone.
