Kindle for BlackBerry coming
BlackBerry users may be irritated by the Dec. 17 e-mail outage that hit their devices, but there's a bit of good news for the bibliophiles among them: According to a note on Amazon.com, a Kindle e-reader application is on the way for BlackBerry smartphones, reports eWeek.
Kindle applications can already be downloaded for the iPhone and Windows PCs. While the e-readers produced by Amazon.com and rival Barnes & Noble are seen as primarily directed at consumers, the business segment, in which BlackBerry mobile devices are popular, is also seen as a potentially huge customer base for e-readers.
As for a release date, "Coming soon" is all that Amazon.com is revealing on its Kindle page, beneath a BlackBerry icon.
Iraq insurgents hack US drones
According to US media reports, insurgents in Iraq have hacked into live video feeds from unmanned American drone aircraft, writes The BBC.
Shia fighters are said to have used off-the-shelf software programs such as SkyGrabber to capture the footage.
The hacking was possible because the remotely flown planes have an unprotected communications link.
3D Blu-Ray specs finalised
Today the Blu-Ray Disc Association announced that the codec for creating full 1080p 3D Blu-Ray content has been set, states PCWorld.
The 3D specification will use Multiview Video Coding, a variant of the ubiquitous H.264 HD codec, for the enhanced visuals. MVC will present seperate 1080p pictures to each eye, yet it will only take up 50% more space on the disc.
In addition, the 3D discs will be able to display in 2D, meaning users won't have to choose between a 2D or 3D version at retail.
