Symantec unveils SME backup tools

Symantec has unveiled a backup and recovery offering designed to help small to medium-size enterprises (SMEs) manage information growth in a secure, flexible and low cost manner, reports Computing.co.uk.

Backup Exec 2010 offers built-in deduplication functionality, or integration through an OpenStorage API to third-party deduplication appliances. These will enable firms to reduce backup storage costs and network utilisation by eliminating redundant data.

The new product unifies archiving for Windows file systems and Exchange environments with its backup capabilities by archiving from the backup copy rather than pulling the data separately.

HP expands security services

HP has unveiled a security services portfolio and new offerings, which it claims to offer increased vulnerability assessment, data protection and compliance controls, states CBROnline.

The addition of new offerings to the Secure Advantage portfolio helps customers establish a security strategy encompassing key areas of the technology infrastructure, from the data centre to desktops and printers, across the enterprise and via the cloud, the company claims.

The company says the new security, compliance, and continuity services portfolio integrates consulting, training and managed security services to help organisations manage risk, protect infrastructure, safeguard the continuity of operations and maintain regulatory compliance.

Teneros offers hosted disaster recovery

Teneros has introduced DR-as-a-service, a hosted disaster recovery solution for critical network and communication applications such as BlackBerry, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and DNS, says Mobile Enterprise.

DR-as-a-service requires no upfront capital expenditure, making it a particularly attractive offering for SMEs.

"The Teneros hosted DR-as-a-service broadens our Always-On product suite to address enterprises' expanding application continuity requirements across their entire IT infrastructure," says Teneros president and CEO Ben Petro.
