Oracle dumps Hitachi storage arrays

Oracle will stop selling high-end data storage arrays from Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) by the end of the month, reports Enterprise Storage Forum.

The agreement ends a nine-year partnership between HDS and Sun Microsystems; which was acquired by Oracle in January.

Oracle says it will focus on the Sun 7000 Open Storage system and the ZFS file system, along with Sun's tape storage business.

SafeNet secures data in the cloud

Encryption vendor SafeNet has decided to invest in cloud computing by offering technologies that help enterprises securely store and access information held in third-party data centres, states PC World.

Peter Schill, SafeNet's director of channel sales, says: “Companies are increasingly shifting their computing to vendor-hosted data centres, which poses new challenges for how information is stored, moved and accessed.”

SafeNet's strategy is to focus on access control and encryption. It's also driving its intelligent authentication tokens; which comes from SafeNet's acquisition in January 2009 of Aladdin Knowledge Systems.

Intel boosts Atom processor

Intel is expanding its Atom processor line from netbook and nettop computers to network storage solutions for home and small office use, says Digital Trends.

The initial line consists of two chips: the Atom D410 single-core CPU and the Atom D510 dual-core CPU.

Intel Data Centre GM, Seth Bobroff says: This advancement in mobility coupled with the explosive growth of data and media are creating the need for centralised, easy-to-use network storage solutions for the home and small office.”
