McAfee offers app security management

McAfee has unveiled a version of its enterprise firewall, promising greater visibility and protection from internal and external threats, as well as improved manageability, reports Computing.co.uk.

McAfee Firewall Enterprise 8 features expanded application awareness and protection to take account of the explosion in Web 2.0 and other apps, according to senior product marketing manager Mike Smart.

"Ten years ago, the threats were at the network layer and it was all about speed," he explains. "We've found that firewalls haven't really responded to the market; they've been delivering the same features for a while, but it's not necessarily up to the job."

Barracuda upgrades message archiving

Barracuda Networks has upgraded its message archiving apparatus to include all Microsoft Exchange functionality, states eWeek.

Barracuda's Message Archiver can archive calendar items, contacts and tasks from Exchange, and is the first appliance-based package to deliver all this capability, says product manager Aseem Asthana.

Message archiving is a fast-growing segment of data storage. This kind of archive stores business-related information from SMS, instant messaging and social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, for legal, compliance and analytics purposes.

Emulex intros OneCommand Vision

Emulex has unveiled OneCommand Vision, an enterprise-class software solution, part of its OneCommand framework, says eChannelLine.

Emulex OneCommand Vision is an intelligent application designed for proactive management of I/O within physical, virtual and cloud data centre environments.

OneCommand Vision was designed to deal with a problem that Enterprise Strategy Group analyst Steve Duplessie has referred to as the I/O blender.
