Comtel buys Wireless Online

Cape Town, 01 Sep 2008

Comtel Communications, together with two private investors, have just concluded the purchase of Wireless Online for an undisclosed sum, on 31 August 2008.

Amelia van der Vyver, MD of Wireless Online and on the EXCO of WAPA, is pleased to know that her company, employees and all the clients will continue their services without interruption.

“The real challenge”, according to Comtel's CEO Dave Couves, ”is about to begin, and involves the technical complexities of merging two completely different networks together.”

The negotiations began during July 2008 and all parties involved are satisfied with the way everything has been concluded.

“The objective for us,” Dave says,” is to increase our hi-site density, and in turn create an environment whereby everyone within the Cape Town and surrounding areas is able to see at least one or more of our hi-sites. It's simple”, continues Dave, “the higher the hi-site density, the better the coverage and quality of our client's experience. Comtel now has a larger client base to sell additional value add services to”, says Dave, “and this is critical to our market share in the wireless arena.”

Wireless Online has 17 towers and over 400 clients and provides wholesale bandwidth services to other WISPs.
