Comtel opens in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, 16 Jan 2010

Comtel Communications has purchased a Johannesburg based WiFi network from Vodacom Gated Services, with effect 23 December 2009.

According to Greg Cooper, Chief Operating Officer at Comtel: “The board took a position some time ago that 'not being in Joburg was not an option'. We plan to spend the next three months upgrading and expanding onto the network so we can continue providing value add solutions like voice and remote backup services to the existing clients.“

Greg continues to say: “We have discussed this network with VGS from as early on as 2008, during which time, we were managing it (the network) and providing billing solutions to the existing clients.”

This acquisition enables Comtel to expand its operations and to continue delivering next generation IP voice, data and security solutions to the market.

The network comprises 15 hi-sites in Johannesburg and the surrounding areas and work is in progress to upgrade and build onto the existing infrastructures.

Comtel officially opened its offices in Randburg today.
