NY Stock Exchange drives governance

An independent commission formed by the New York Stock Exchange released a list of governance principles to help listed companies establish a governance framework of their own, reports CNBC.

"Governance is more than a set of rules, it is really a conduct of integrity, ethics and accountability and I think that constantly has to be reinforced," says Larry Sonsini, chairperson of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati.

He adds: "Management should adopt governance principles and incorporate them in their own operating plans, whether it deals with risk management, or compensation tied to performance. Management has got to be aware that governance, including tone at the top, starts there."

Novell unveils governance suite

Novell has unveiled the latest version of the Novell Access Governance Suite, states TMCnet.

The Novell solution governs access to sensitive corporate resources and addresses regulatory requirements across the entire user lifecycle.

Jim Ebzery, Novell senior vice-president and general manager for security, management and operating platforms, says: “By adding Novell's access request and change manager, customers can empower the right people in the organisation to view, define and control who is accessing what applications.”

Bahrain gets new governance code

The corporate governance code for Bahrain comes into effect from January next year, says The Gulf Daily News.

The code has been developed to help clarify what good corporate governance is and to encourage it in all companies that do business in Bahrain.

It is issued in a 'comply or explain' framework, which means companies will have to comply with the recommendations or give an explanation in case of non-compliance.
