Mind Sports SA (MSSA) has revealed that the International Electronics Sports Federation (IESF) will be holding the world championships in October 2011.

Last year, and in 2009, MSSA sent a team to represent SA. Colin Webster, president of MSSA, says: “Both teams performed to their best against the world's top players, and were instrumental in having helped raise the standard on gaming in SA.”

Webster points out electronic sports (e-sports) in SA are maturing.

“To compete for the third time shows that e-sports is coming of age in SA. No other organisation has been able to send as many people consistently across to participate in international events. Also, the gamers are becoming far more aware of what is required.”

Last year, the South African team competed against players from around the world in Fifa 2010 and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

To qualify for the 2011 trials, Webster says gamers will need to register with a club affiliated to the MSSA, and participate in any provincial LAN Championships and finish in the top three, or top 20%, whichever is greater.

The IeSF has also given all member federations until the 10 February 2011 to submit their choice of five games for inclusion into the world championships.

According to MSSA, interested participants are invited to send in their choice of games to play, with full motivation as to why it should be played by clicking here or on the MSSA Facebook page.
