HP intros hybrid cloud service

HP is introducing a hybrid cloud service that partners can either resell or white label to enterprise customers, reports Channel Web.

The vendor unveiled its 'private cloud-as-a-service' offering, HP Enterprise Cloud Services Compute at an event in central London.

Set for release, the service will be based on the vendor's converged infrastructure architecture and hosted within one of its UK data centres.

IBM supports mobile social networking

At its annual Lotusphere event in Orlando, US, IBM released mobile support for its social networking programs, states Information Week.

Mobile apps will be tied to LotusLive Symphony as part of a redesign of LotusLive under the slogan "Get Social. Do (mobile) Business."

Alistair Rennie, IBM's general manager of social business and collaboration initiatives, said that IBM's strategy with social is to build social features through devices, rather than just focusing on the desktop. That will also mean supporting devices like the Apple iPad and other tablets in ways natural to those devices.

IP seeks better document generation

IP Australia has asked software suppliers for alternatives to its legacy Microsoft Word template and macro system for document generation, notes IT News.

At a briefing with software suppliers in Canberra, representatives from the agency explained that IP Australia has relied on Microsoft Word macros and templates for some years.

"We have 1000 interactive word macros lying around our environment," explained Bill Voeten, enterprise architect at IP Australia.
