Trusted data protection platform for physical/virtual environments launches in SA

Johannesburg, 04 Jul 2011

Unified Recovery Platform, a fully integrated data protection platform for both physical and virtual environments, has launched in South Africa by EOH company THINK iT.

Developed by i365, a Seagate Technology company and trusted expert in complete data protection solutions, with more than 32 000 customers worldwide, Unified Recovery Platform offers cost-effective online data backup and recovery - either in-house, offsite, or both.

Suitable for companies of all sizes across all industries, it gives them the ability to protect and access their business data, anytime, anywhere, and ensures business continuity even in dynamic multi-platform, multi-site environments.

In short, it lessens their risk of losing their data. And, because it is available as SaaS (software as a service), it does so cost-effectively.

Said THINK iT Chief Technology Officer, Louis Botha: “All companies are under constant pressure to manage and protect critical data in complex environments, both in the data centre and across multiple remote locations.

“The introduction of King III and the new Companies Act, effective May 2011, calls on business to comply with the due diligence and risk management recommendations for their specific industry. Having a data recovery plan in place goes a long way in ensuring the prevention of valuable data.

“Unified Recovery Platform, with its seamless integration and delivery options, strengthens our position to meet customer data backup and storage needs, and easily scale as they grow.

“It delivers foolproof, cross-platform data backup - inducing open files - and recovery, real-time protection, remote disaster recovery, vault- and subscription-based replication, bare metal restores, endpoint protection with in-disk data encryption, remote wipe technologies (for mobile devices), port locking and more.

“Software is deployed on-premise and is cloud-ready. It is the ideal solution for customers requiring Opex instead of Capex expenditure, as well as those wanting to evaluate an off-site solution.”

Unified Recovery Platform is:

* Flexible: online/on-site, off-site or both;
* Built to scale and charged as such: SaaS availability means the customer only pays for the data backed up starting at R10 per Gigabyte per month for the onsite solution, and R25 per Gigabyte per month for the offsite option;
* Platform independent: integrates with Microsoft, Linux, IBMPS, Unix and SQL, SharePoint among others;
* Accountable: flexible reporting system ensures data status is always known; and
* Quick: restores from local disks in minutes rather than hours.

Added Botha: “THINK iT's goal is to provide its customers with cost-effective online and offline solutions that strengthen their data protection, streamline backup and recovery, and meet a wide range of service levels, even for the largest data volumes. The highly trusted Unified Recovery Platform is therefore a welcome addition to our solution portfolio in this arena.”
