Printacom debuts green high-speed OKI dot-matrix printers

Johannesburg, 22 Jul 2011

With dot-matrix printers, speed and reliability are the ultimate measure of performance. But in today's day and age, speed has to be delivered responsibly.

That's what OKI has achieved with the announcement of a new range of machines, which deliver up to 700cps (characters per second), meeting even the most demanding of impact printing requirements.

Brandon Zabielski, OKI Product Manager of OKI's sole southern African distributor, Printacom, says such impact printing is achieved with a lower impact on the environment: the new OKIs offer ultra-low energy consumption and are manufactured in a 'carbon zero rated' facility.

“Where dot-matrix printing is concerned, there can be no doubt that a faster machine means better business processes in warehouses, for back-end financial reports and many other applications where durability and reliability are also key concerns,” says Zabielski. “The four models which comprise the ML5700eco Series deliver just that.”

Designed to handle a wide range of high-volume printing applications, he says the ML5700eco Series offers 9- and 24-pin versions in both wide carriage (136-column) and narrow carriage (80-column) models. “The 24-pin models are ideal for applications where a higher quality output is required,” Zabielski notes. And, since impact printers are unique in their ability to handle multi-part forms, he highlights the ability of these machines to handle up to 7-part stock.

Drawing attention to the necessity for environmentally sound business practices, Zabielski explains that as intimated, a zero-carbon facility has negligible emissions. “Add to that, the devices incorporate the latest in power management to deliver a power usage of just 1.5 Watts in 'Sleep Mode',” he says.

A first for OKI, each model in the ML5700eco Series incorporates a front paper feeder in addition to rear, bottom and top paper inputs for maximum flexibility. Included as standard is a multi-position tractor feed unit to make it easy to feed continuous paper, whether it is single or multi-part.

The ML5700eco range consists of four models:

* The ML5720eco (80-column) and ML5721eco (136-column) are equipped with 9-pin print heads to deliver the optimum in speed/print quality performance. With a top print speed of 700cps (characters per second) these machines will power through transactions and listings, printing on single or multi-part forms up to seven parts.

* The ML5790eco and ML5791eco (80/136 columns respectfully) are equipped with 24-pin print heads to deliver the best possible print quality for crisper text and sharper images. The top print speed for these products is 576cps allowing them to quickly deliver high quality documents on single or multi-part forms up to six parts.

With OKI recognised for its reliability, the machines carry a standard three-year carry-in warranty if customers register their machines with the vendor.

“These devices are designed to deliver high-speed, low-maintenance and very low cost-per-page printing, equipped with 400 million character print heads and long life ribbons. With a mean-time-between failure of 25 000 hours, the ML5700eco Series will keep productivity levels high and environmental impact low,” Zabielski notes.

The launch of the new series is the first from OKI in over a decade and reinforces its market share position as the number one high-speed business dot matrix printer in South Africa. The new models are available from OKI's hardware distributors, Tarsus, Kolok, Lasertech, PDC and Drive Control from April 2011.
