Electronics giant, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Note 10.1 to the South African market.

According to Samsung, the tablet PC, which is an extension of the Galaxy Note category, will retail at R8 499.

Speaking during the launch event, Craige Fleischer, director for mobile communication at Samsung SA, said the Galaxy Note 10.1 is outfitted with the functionality and precision of a pen and paper on a 10.1-inch display, to provide for a user's creativity, productivity and learning abilities.

Featuring an intuitive user experience and armed with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM for enhanced performance, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is designed to simplify idea capture, information access and multitasking, making each easier and faster.

“Galaxy Note 10.1 further demonstrates Samsung's dedication to delivering products that offer a complete mobile experience for creating personalised and expressive content,” said Fleischer.

“History has shown that taking notes, capturing ideas immediately, and sketching to realise them is the most personal and natural way to be more productive and creative. The advanced technology and features included in Galaxy Note 10.1 give users the power to produce, create and customise communications.”

Multitasking

Samsung touts the product for its multi-tasking capabilities. In a statement, the Korean electronics giant says, with the Galaxy Note 10.1's multi-screen feature, users can utilise two different applications side-by-side, simultaneously, for easy multitasking.

Users can view Web pages or videos, or open other applications while writing or sketching ideas with the S Pen on the other half of the screen.

Furthermore, Samsung adds, users can capture and crop images, and paste them onto the other screen to make personal notes and enhance their creativity, productivity and learning abilities. The company also claims that the multi-screen feature increases productivity and efficiency while users are enjoying multimedia content.

S Pen

Another selling point, from Samsung's perspective, is the 6.5mm S Pen. With this feature, Fleischer said the Galaxy Note 10.1 is optimised for the creation of personalised and expressive content in a natural and intuitive way.

The S Pen is embedded directly in the device and, when removed, automatically opens specially optimised applications, including S Note, S Planner, Crayon Physics, Adobe Photoshop Touch, and Polaris Office.

Alternatively, users can set their preferred application to be opened instantly. For example, Samsung says, S Note can be launched as soon as a user removes the S Pen from the device. Users can also tap the screen twice while pressing the S Pen button for quick S Note access via the S Note-dedicated widget, which can be easily moved anywhere on the display.

According to Fleischer, S Note gives users the ability to combine notes and sketches with other digital content in templates. The Shape Match and Formula Match features help correct and digitise geometric shapes and solve numeric formulas hand-written with the S Pen.

The S Note is also integrated with knowledge search engines so users can search for content, obtain information, and drag and drop content onto S Notes without having to switch between screens.

The tablet also comes with the Adobe Photoshop Touch application, which allows users to edit photos using the precision of the S Pen.

Also speaking at the function, Samsung SA's head of marketing and product manager for Samsung tablets, Yudi Rambaran, touted the Galaxy Note 10.1's 'active learning experience' capabilities.

He pointed out that the device is an ideal learning tool that allows users to take notes directly on an e-textbook while watching lectures, or research the Web while writing an essay at the same time.

Rambaran also revealed that Samsung's Learning Hub service, which will be available from October, is optimised for Galaxy Note 10.1, allowing users to access extensive multimedia educational content.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Note 10.1 Learning Hub will be downloadable via Samsung Apps in more than 20 countries, including SA, by the end of 2012.

With AllShare Group Cast, it adds, users can also share and collaborate on documents, presentations or images without loading the files separately.

Galaxy Note 10.1 comes in a WiFi-and-3G HSPA-Plus connectivity version at release.
