MTN's new BlackBerry plans with higher data limits will be available from 14 July.

MTN has revised its BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) portfolio in what it says is an attempt to offer customers plans based on their particular data usage patterns.

This follows the operator's introduction of a 200MB cap on BIS services in March, which it called BlackBerry Absolute

Three months down the line, MTN says it has lifted the 200MB cap, and introduced new BIS packages in an effort to simplify offerings and give BlackBerry users more choice. However, the Absolute plan will be "phased out" after the new plans are instituted.

The new plans, says MTN, will be effective as of 14 July and include access to all or some of the usual BIS services, including BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), BlackBerry e-mail, instant messaging, Internet browsing and BlackBerry App World.

"BlackBerry MTN customers will be able to enjoy complete and unlimited BIS for R59 per month." In addition to this, the operator will introduce BIS Lite for R39.95 per month, with a 200MB cap.

MTN's revised plans of R29.95 (100MB cap), R19.95 (40MB cap) and R14.95 (30MB cap) per month correspond to the BIS plans the company introduced last year (the Social and E-mail plan, the Social plan and the Messaging plan respectively) - apart from the fact that the caps have been increased.

Absolute alteration

Regarding MTN's BlackBerry Absolute plan, the operator said earlier customers are "currently enjoying a zero-rated unlimited experience.

"The only difference is that when they check their data availability it will reflect zero while allowing them to continue with the services. This means that with MTN's BlackBerry Absolute service, customers receive free uncapped data access until their next top-up anniversary date.

"It is important to note that after they have used 200mb, customers checking their data availability will see that it reflects zero MB remaining, even though the service continues to function."
