Nuts and bolts of the BCEA - a Sage VIP seminar not to be missed

Johannesburg, 02 Jul 2013

"A thorough understanding of The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and its implications for the workplace is vital to all organisations. The act forms a fundamental part of labour legislation in South Africa and impacts every single employee's contract of employment, at every level in the organisation," says Anja Hartman, HR Director at Sage VIP.

According to Hartman, a practical knowledge of the detail in the BCEA is not only essential for legal compliance, but it can be a positive tool for management if used properly.

To answer some of the crucial questions around the BCEA and provide an in-depth knowledge and understanding to employers, payroll administrators, HR professionals and line managers, Sage VIP will be hosting morning workshops, during July and August, at various venues throughout South Africa. The presenter will be labour relations expert Andrew Levy. He is one of South Africa's most popular seminar presenters and has post-graduate qualifications in law and labour economics.

"Andrew Levy and Sage VIP have a long history of presenting relevant and informative seminars which have proved to be immensely popular. His engaging style, quick humour and practical knowledge make learning fun, while transferring knowledge and experience," says Hartman.

According to Hartman, the content for the workshop has been carefully selected for relevance and practicality, and will comprehensively cover everything organisations need to know about the BCEA.

Some of the questions that will be addressed at the workshop include:

* What can you do when an employee overstays his leave?
* What is the only safe way to deal with a deserter?
* Can employees demand to be paid out for leave?
* What constitutes a non-compliant medical certificate?
* Can an employee resign with immediate effect?
* What do labour inspectors look for in an audit?

The workshop will also answer questions relating to issues such as working hours, salaries, retrenchment and contractual documentation.

Attendees will take home a comprehensive yet practical workbook for later reference, and will receive an electronic copy of The Complete Guide to the BCEA, prepared by Andrew Levy Employment, valued at R675.
