Guildford, UK , 04 Sep 2013

Avaya, the global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions, today announced that Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for the Development of Ukraine has chosen Avaya Scopia videoconferencing solutions to improve quality of patient assessment, care and outcomes.

Currently, the majority of hospitals designed for patients with cancerous tumours in theUkraine do not have the essential medical equipment or do not have a qualified base of specialists to effectively fight these illnesses.

In December 2011, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for the Development of the Ukraine launched a project to create a national telemedicine network among oncology clinics in the Ukraine as part of the Cancer is Curable Programme. The goal of the programme is to equip the oncology centres with modern technologies, educate doctors in how to work with the new, complex technologies and new techniques and to provide qualified assistance with complex procedures from colleagues at the National Cancer Institute (Kiev) or other speciality centres.

By deploying Avaya Scopia videoconferencing, the foundation aims to educate consultants and provide assistance when performing complex medical procedures via Scopia's high-definition video - allowing the foundation to optimise the learning process, reduce travel expenditure and improve the quality of medical services.

The Scopia XT Video Conferencing systems were chosen as they meet the highest standards for video quality, functionality and ease of use. NTEL, a systems integrator providing a wide range of services in communications and outsourcing, installed the equipment. The Scopia XT5000 is equipped with a 10x-magnification camera that will assist in the investigation of the smallest details during surgical procedures, immediately creating the illusion that the doctors are all located in the same operating theatre.

The Scopia XT500 with a built-in MCU is the only solution that allows nine different locations to be brought together in HD in Continuous Presence Mode, and the user interface of both systems is very easy to navigate, so that consultants can instantly and effectively operate the system without any introductory training.

Avaya Scopia videoconferencing is already in use at 10 oncology centres across Ukraine. Every day, regional clinics conduct more than 12 surgical procedures using Avaya technologies. At the same time, specialists from other medical centres around Ukraine can dial into the procedures and conduct consultations online. With Scopia's multipoint videoconferencing technology, the screen can display up to 28 participants - critical when multiple specialists must weigh in on a procedure or diagnosis.

Quotes:
"The vision of the Cancer is Curable Programme is to launch a national telemedicine network for oncology clinics around Ukraine, thus creating effective working conditions for the national oncology service. One of the most important aspects of this programme is that it maximises use of the versatile potential of modern video technologies, which will allow treatments to be brought to a whole new level."

Viktoria Mykolayuk, Programme and Project Leader, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for the Development of Ukraine

"We are proud to participate in the creation of telemedicine centres in Ukraine as part of the Cancer is Curable Programme. Bringing these video conferencing systems online will significantly increase the efficiency of both the diagnostic and the therapeutic process. The Avaya Scopia solution offers the perfect combination of price and quality. Online communication between doctors significantly reduces expenses in terms of time and money, expands opportunities and improves the provision of highly qualified medical services."

Alexandr Koilo, General Director, NTEL Company.

"Avaya's videoconferencing solution enables Ukrainian medical centres to communicate more effectively, to improve the quality of patient examinations and treatment, to increase the number of professional consultations, and to simplify procedures for setting up meetings and consultations, improving the decision-making process. The Cancer is Curable Programme has plans for continued development of the video conferencing network. By the end of the year, the Avaya Scopia solutions will have been installed in 15 more hospitals across the country, and it's great to be part of such a critical medical programme."
