At the highly-anticipated Samsung Unpacked launch, staged at the IFA event in Berlin tonight, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 and its futuristic Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch.
Here's a quick recap of the key take-outs:
* The Galaxy Note 3 is aimed at being a secure #BYOD device and comes with Knox security.
* It is slimmer and lighter and supposed to feel better in the hand - it is 7.9mm thick and weighs 539g.
* The new Note has a 13MP camera (1.9MP front-facing) that can record video at 60fps and has a high CRI LED flash and stabiliser.
* The Galaxy Note 3 has a new leather-and-stitching look and comes in black, white and pink.
* The width of the device is the same as the previous Galaxy Note, but Note 3 has a bigger screen, allowing for better multi-tasking ("multi-window").
* It has an advanced stylus ("S Pen"), with a number of features. Drawing various shapes with the S Pen will link to different functions, eg, a circle to save to a scrapbook.
* Galaxy Note 3 learns your handwriting and can identify different kinds of information, like a name and phone number.
Samsung's futuristic smart watch Samsung Galaxy Gear was also a launched, described by Samsung as " a smart companion device that further integrates the Galaxy experience into everyday life".
* Samsung Galaxy Gear has a built-in outward facing camera to use as a "visual memo". It takes pictures with one swipe.
* The camera also has augmented reality features; it translates signs and can search for more objects.
* The battery on the Galaxy Gear is designed to last more than a day.
* A variety of apps can be installed on Galaxy Gear. It has gyroscope and accelerometer to respond to movements.
* "Smart relay" means you can make and receive calls without taking the phone out of your pocket. You can control it using voice commands.
* Gear comes in six different colours and works by syncing with other Samsung devices - basically, it's an accessory. It is supposed to be "out of sci-fi" but still something everyone can wear.
* The Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear will be available worldwide in October.
* Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, with 3GB RAM, 8MP camera, and Jellybean 4.3.
