Security vendor, Cyberoam, has opened an office in Johannesburg.

In an interview with ITWeb, Adrian Anema, Cyberoam SA's channel manager, said the new office is intended to cater to the growing South African marketplace, noting that five staff members will man the office.

Anema added that, as a channel-centric organisation, Cyberoam's Johannesburg office should empower the channel to sell more. "Through extensive training and continuous support, we empower our partners to increase capabilities for sales as well as technical and service competency," he said.

According to Anema, in SA, network security plays a key role in protecting information assets and driving innovation within organisations. The globalised environment means network security is an ever-evolving industry, he said, adding that customers are demanding a trusted network environment for uninterrupted communications, coupled with instant information access and smooth business transactions.

Therefore, it is important for partners to have skilled and certified security professionals who can cater to and ensure that clients' specific security needs and business objectives are met, he pointed out.

"There is a strong demand for Cyberoam solutions, as Cyberoam meets the emerging business needs with its gigabit network performance and virtualised security, among other solutions. Therefore, we are moving fast to tap into the huge potential. This, in fact, is the best time to accelerate, for which we have rolled out key initiatives matching our growth," he explained.

To Anema, the company's presence in SA will hopefully allow for further African expansion. "The [whole of] Africa is our focus area and we have offices in Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and other regions of Africa," he noted.

Anema revealed that Cyberoam recently received EAL4 Common Criteria certification. Common Criteria is an international set of standards (ISO/IEC 15408) that provides a widespread framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of IT security products, he said.

"EAL4 is, therefore, the highest assurance level that is recognised globally, particularly by large enterprise businesses, and government and defence establishments. This would boost the confidence of the entire channel and that of enterprise customers," Anema concluded.
