Faculty Training Institute (FTI), the company known for pioneering the business analysis profession in South Africa, has established a Business Analysis (BA) Learnership Programme. The creation of the Business Analysis Learnership Programme for Government Institutions (NQF level 6) will see unemployed graduates from IT, commerce, finance and business fields provided with educational and employment opportunities in the fast emerging and scarce skills domains of business and systems analysis.
In June 2012, FTI became an MICT SETA recognised Institute of Sectoral and Occupational Excellence (ISOE) in Business Analysis. "Our immediate goals as a 'centre of excellence', among others, was to increase access to employment and educational opportunities in business and systems analysis for qualifying candidates from communities where this access is currently limited," says Steve Erlank, CEO of FTI.
"Locally and abroad, business and systems analysis have been identified as scarce skills occupations. Demand for these skills is found primarily in the financial sectors, but increasingly there is growing need in government, manufacturing and (IT) services," says Erlank. In partnership with MICT SETA and through which the one-year programme is registered and fully-funded, FTI developed the Learnership Programme.
The Learnership Programme runs from November 2013 to November 2014.
The candidates sourced by FTI will initially undergo stringent assessments to ensure the core competencies required of skilled business analysts are embodied in the nominated candidates. These include thinking and problem-solving capabilities, computer, language and business literacy, aptitude, and above all, the right attitude. "They should be prepared to go the extra mile and show their potential, positive attitude and motivation to excel in the business unit," says Georgenia Stam, Course Quality Manager of FTI.
The course comprises instructor-led training seminars, supplemented readings, exercises and practical group work. "Workplace assignments, coupled with rich feedback, ensure that the delegate is able to apply the skills directly in the workplace," says Erlank. FTI will also provide coaching and mentoring training to the managers or supervisors of the learners to facilitate success of this learnership.
FTI, together with MICT SETA, is thrilled to be able to implement this programme. We foresee the outcome of up-skilled graduates that will be a valuable input to the market and up-skilled graduates who will be able to secure work as BAs, and so increase the pool of newly trained business analysts.
