As 2013 comes to a close, Google has taken its annual look at the videos, channels, and moments that shaped our year.
Globally, the world watched The Fox more than 265 million times, making it the top trending video of 2013, with viewers also making it a top searched Halloween costume. The global public turned out in record-setting numbers to see Psy's post-Gangnam Style performance on his latest video Gentleman, it says.
South Africans joined the global community in dancing the days away with Ylvis, Miley, Katy, Psy and Rihanna, but local events took precedence as viewers flocked to watch with horror the Pinetown truck accident, in Durban, and the Westgate Mall attack, in Nairobi, says Google.
South African sport and national pride ruled when rugby player Bryan Habana raced a new British Airways A380 plane, and viewers showed their concern about child safety on Johannesburg's roads.
South Africans also continued to demonstrate their appreciation for humour, with spoofs on How Animals Eat Their Food, and with a record number of comedy channels making the list of most watched YouTube channels this year, says Google.
To celebrate all these moments, over 60 creators on YouTube got together and made a little video.
