ICASA says no further deadlines for its end-user quality charter will be granted.
ICASA says no further deadlines for its end-user quality charter will be granted.

The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) has extended the submission deadline for the draft review of the End-User and Subscriber Service Charter following requests from interested parties.

ICASA says the deadline - initially set for 21 January - has been extended to 14 March.

"In [the name of] public interest and fairness, the authority has decided to extend the deadline for the submission of written comments."

The End-User and Subscriber Service Charter is a regulation aimed at ensuring that end-users and subscribers are provided with high quality services by licensees.

It seeks to, among others, prescribe the minimum standards for services to end-users and subscribers to electronic communications network and services licensees; and to ensure that the service is offered in accordance with established service parameters.

ICASA says it believes the charter will "go a long way in addressing a major challenge of poor network quality and dropped calls that consumers continue to complain about".

"It is expected that the finalisation of the regulations will encourage licensees to utilise their licensed spectrum efficiently to meet the demands of consumers and to comply with the said set of regulations."

The notice of the extension will be published in the Government Gazette during the course of this week, says ICASA, and "no further extensions will be granted".
