Oracle's first local CIO Summit will address the changing role of the CIO and the top IT strategy issues for 2014.

The half-day event will gather local CIOs and other top-level IT executives on 15 April at Summer Place in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

According to Pieter Bensch, country leader at Oracle South Africa, the summit will focus on "what it takes for IT to shift focus from maintaining systems to becoming a strategic partner that can help unleash innovation across the business".

Keynote speakers include Jean-Claude Michaca, vice-president for storage systems, Oracle EMEA, and Nenad Pacek, founder and president of Global Success Advisors based in Austria.

A business advisor to many multinational companies, Pacek will share his insights into emerging markets in his talk on the future of South African economy and business in the global context.

An interactive discussion about the top 10 CIO strategy issues for 2014 will be moderated by Bob Evans, Oracle's senior vice-president and chief communications officer.

The recent dramatic changes in the role of a CIO will be further examined, with the agenda featuring talks on the CIO as a customer-focused innovator, a strategic business leader and an evangelist for new markets and future shape of the organisation.
