Think like a hacker

Zone-H, in partnership with Telspace Systems, will be presenting its Hands on Hacking (HOH) course at the FNB Conference and Training Centre, between 22 and 23 September.

Zone-H, an online information security resource created by Roberto Preatoni in 2002, started offering training in 2003.

Says Preatoni, “We have hosted over 400 training sessions so far globally, in countries including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Russian Federation, Norway, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Slovenia , Slovak Republic, Poland, Croatia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and India. It is, however, our first time training in South Africa.”

Zone-H decided to partner with Telspace Systems locally to access the promising South African market. “Telspace Systems is a young, brilliant security player in SA's market which meets all of the Zone-H requirements in terms of innovation, reliability and open-mindedness.”

Regarding the partnership, Dino Covotsos, CEO of Telspace Systems, says, “Telspace Systems has partnered with Zone-H to make its excellent training courses accessible to the South African public. Telspace Systems will be providing trainers for the course along with Zone-H.”

Although this is the first time Zone-H has brought its training to local shores, Covotsos says that additional training can be expected in future. “Our ongoing partnership with Zone-H allows us to offer any of Zone-H's internationally recognised courses. It also provides us with a better understanding of the global training market.”

IT security specialists and administrators, security officers, wireless network administrators, or any individuals interested in learning to use hacking and defensive techniques used by hackers, are encouraged to attend the training, says Covotsos.

Students will play the role of the "bad guys" during the course, and be offered real-life scenarios and assigned real-life hacking tasks (on proprietary targets). “There's no better way to learn IT security than by wearing the shoes of the bad guys,” says Preatoni.

“These courses are in-depth and far more hands-on than any course we have done research on within the South African market. HOH includes both the fun and serious sides of hacking and actually teaching the trainees to think like an attacker,” Covotsos concludes.
