Canon`s PIXMA range in SA soon

Johannesburg, 13 Jul 2004

Canon SA has previewed its new PIXMA range of consumer imaging products, to be launched in SA in September.

The range features seven personal photo printers and multifunctionals, and incorporates plug-and-play printing.

The printer range includes four single-function printers with the flagship model being the PIXMA iP4000, which prints 25 pages per minute.

The flagship multifunctional is the PIXMA MP780, printing up to 25 pages per minute (mono) and 17 pages per minute (colour), while 4-inch x 6-inch borderless photos will print in 36 seconds. The standard multifunctional, the MP110, has an output of 18 pages per minute.

"We predict a change in how consumers print their photos in the future," says Nigel Taylor, GM of Canon Consumer Imaging SA. "Instead of choosing just four or five prints to keep costs down, you`ll be able to print much more as costs are lower."

According to Taylor, Canon has invested 5.4 billion euros in research and development.

The PIXMA products operate with two-way paper paths and have small footprints and low noise levels. Functionality such as CD-ROM writing or automatic double-sided printing is also available.

In a process called FINE, Canon has adapted its technology to create print heads with a tolerance similar to that of integrated circuits. FINE print heads, featuring high-density multi-nozzle design, eject millions of microscopic ink droplets per second. This puts more ink on the page in less time and with greater accuracy for fast, clear prints, says Canon.
