The future is coming - look smart

Data will be the new standard for all forms of communication going forward. The need for cellular and traditional telephony will soon become a thing of the past.

Cape Town, 15 May 2014

Telecommunications has come a long way since Alexander Graham Bell made his first phone call. We doubt he could ever have envisioned just what he created. Where we were to where we are today consists of massive leaps and bounds and going forward into the future one can expect huge changes to the way we communicate.

Already today we make use of Skype, Viber, WhatsApp, WeChat, Twitter, Facebook, FaceTime, to name a few, to communicate with each other. Most of us are more than happy to make use of texting as a means to communicate, but there is always that need and desire to communicate verbally. However, doing this via the traditional methods, Abacus Telecomm sees as a thing of the past. All communications will make use of the data networks as opposed to the traditional voice networks.

What does this mean for the end-user? Not much actually. They will still use their device (we can no longer call them cellular phones) to make and receive calls. They will just do all of their communications via the data network as opposed to the voice network.

Ultimately in the future, traditional telephony infrastructure will become redundant and data networks will be the primary means of communication. No more complicated telephone bills with SMS/data/voice options. Just one data bundle to do everything! What could be more simpler? Calls already "on network" with most service providers are free and an "off network" call is already considerably cheaper via VOIP.

VOIP call limits can be set so you receive one bill for you mobile data and one controlled bill for your voice. This is already possible and is being utilised by many of Abacus Telecomms' clients. It will only be a matter of time before data becomes the new standard.
