Absa to reap massive benefits from Africa`s first ECC platform

Absa, one of Africa`s largest financial services organisations, has completed a SAP Enterprise Core Components (ECC) implementation that will unlock savings of R371 million in the next five years.

At a cost of R111 million, it is one of the most complex, integrated projects in the continent`s financial services industry, providing over 3 000 end-users with world-class processes across the bank`s finance, HR, sourcing and real estate asset management functions.

Implementation partner Accenture assisted Absa with the ECC project which is the first step towards creating a standardised IT platform across the group`s heterogeneous and complex IT environment which will reduce maintenance costs. The project also included supplier relationship management and business warehousing which will drastically increase the bank`s sourcing and reporting capabilities.

"The successful completion of this project, initiated long before the Barclays transaction, demonstrates our inherent local delivery capability towards becoming the pre-eminent bank in Africa," says Absa`s executive director Pieter van der Merwe.

"Our continued improvement of Absa`s operations ensures we deliver below the line shareholder value, and this new platform is an example of our commitment to becoming a high performance organisation."
