So, you have just graduated from college, or maybe you are a soon-to-be graduate embarking on your first job search, hoping to kick off your career in the huge world of IT. You are probably feeling so many mixed emotions: excitement, fear, nervousness. Considering the amount of pressure you have to face from your family, friends and, most of all, yourself to land a job as soon as you graduate, it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do. Sometimes this pressure can overwhelm you, but the most important thing you can do to better your chances of landing that dream job is to not let it do so.

You are probably wondering what you can do to better your chances of landing that dream job. There are many tips available on the Internet that would provide you with the insight you need and bring about the change in attitude that will substantially better your chances of being hired. I would like to share some tips that I found very useful. I personally think the most important trait a person can have is their attitude. If you have the right attitude, there is nothing you can't accomplish, says Reagan Ramsarup, intern at ConVista Consulting.

* Don't let the pressure of wanting a job force you to take the first job that you are offered.
* Don't apply for jobs that you know you will not enjoy doing.
* Don't rely solely on the Internet to seek jobs.
* Don't let your social networks ruin your chances of getting that job you desire.
* Don't try and be someone you're not.
* Don't try to be a know-it-all. No one likes a know-it-all.
* And finally, the most important don't of them all... Don't ever go to an interview unprepared. Always research the company that's interviewing you.

The things you should do:

The first thing you have to do is decide what your dream job is. This is very important, as you spend almost a third of your life working. You really don't want to be stuck in something you don't like doing.

Take a targeted approach. You should decide your target job and focus your energy on landing that.

Make sure you have a clean and professional CV.

Always portray confidence in everything you do; employers love confident people and people who know what they want.

Job seeking is extremely hard, especially if you are straight out of university, with little or no experience. I have been through this process. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology and Computer Science. I had no working experience in software and systems development. I applied for many jobs, and had many interviews with no luck. My biggest problem was that I doubted myself. I always felt that I wouldn't be able to cope with the pressures of working in software development and that I didn't have what it takes to be a developer. This is what caused me to lose confidence in myself and I showed this lack of confidence in my interviews. I felt that way for many months, and after each interview, it got worse. I felt that the employer saw my lack of experience and saw that I had no potential, hence I was never offered the job. I finally gave up and stopped applying for work. Then one day, I finally decided to get my life in order. I realised the only person holding me back from my dream job was myself. I didn't believe in myself, and that caused me to feel that I wasn't good enough. From that very moment, I set goals for myself. I applied for more jobs and I brushed up on my development knowledge. I researched for tips to better my chances at getting the job I desired, and I used those tips to shape my attitude, build my confidence and better myself. I finally have my dream job. I am working for a company called ConVista Consulting. I am an intern and I am developing software applications. I am having the time of my life and I truly enjoy the work I do.

If you can learn just one thing from this article, you should learn that what you believe is what makes you. If you believe you can't do something, then you will never be able to do it. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the only thing holding you back is yourself. Dreams do come true, but they are not magical, it doesn't just happen at night while you sleep. You have to work hard and persevere. Never give up just because something is too hard. Always think positively, and remember, you control the outcome of your life.
