Datacentrix strengthens its offerings through business unit integration

Johannesburg, 31 Aug 2001

As part of an ongoing drive to improve productivity and the quality of its offerings, Datacentrix is rearranging its resources and creating critical mass of skills by fully integrating the business units that have the same market focus and competencies.

"The main objective for the integration is to consolidate and strengthen Datacentrix offerings and to lay a foundation for further growth," says Gary Morolo, executive chairman of Datacentrix.

Datacentrix is now structured into three divisions, Datacentrix Infrastructure Solutions, Datacentrix Business Solutions and the e-business joint venture, Commerce Centre. Management expects this consolidation of functions to enhance the group`s success within the South African IT infrastructure services market.

The group expanded its product and service offering through the acquisition of Supported Software in April 1999, the establishment of Commerce Centre in January 2000 and the formation of Datacentrix Business Solutions in August 2000. This rapid growth created the need to combine similar product offerings and skills that are similar in nature together and resulted in the following changes to the group.

* Sterling Commerce and Xcellenet products, which focus on e-business infrastructure, will be incorporated into Commerce Centre, the e-business joint venture that is 70% owned by Datacentrix Holdings and 30% by Sterling Commerce and ParaRede. These products were part of the Supported Software product range.

Three new units have been formed in the existing infrastructure business.

* Datacentrix Enterprise Storage comprises the Network Storage integration unit of Supported Software and the enterprise storage unit of Datacentrix Infrastructure Solutions and functions as one focused business unit. This unit partners with industry leaders such as ADIC, Compaq, Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Legato and Veritas.

* The solutions of Data and Document Management are based on products developed by IXOS Software AG, the worldwide leading provider of software solutions for the archiving of business documents for the SAP R/3 environment.

* Performance Management specialises in software solutions for enterprise users that need to optimise their IT infrastructures using international vendors such as Landmark Systems and Computer Associates.

Says Gary Morolo: "We are excited about the progress we have made in assimilating and integrating our various operations. A common culture is being forged and we are beginning to use our competencies and resources to our fullest advantage. This also offers scope for each of the areas to become major players in their respective niches and thus enhances growth opportunities for our people."
