Datacentrix formalises security division

Johannesburg, 23 Apr 2002

Local IT infrastructure and solution provider, Datacentrix has announced the official launch and formalisation of its Security Division.

Ahmed Mahomed, MD of the Infrastructure division of Datacentrix, explained that Datacentrix was effectively extending its service offering to customers by consolidating its existing security products under one division dedicated to servicing market requirements for comprehensive security solutions.

The offering includes the following technologies: firewalls, virtual private networks (VPN), intrusion detection systems (IDS), anti-virus, content filtering, as well as services around these technologies.

Newly appointed business unit manager for the security division, Idris Cassim, says: "Security attacks are becoming more sophisticated and difficult to track, forcing companies to realise the implications and potential cost savings of having a proper IT security solution in place.

The cost of not being proactive is the cost of fixing the damage after an attack as well as the cost of installing the necessary security measures.

"This has become increasingly apparent to Datacentrix, with a growing number of existing customers requesting a variety of security solutions, from anti-virus software to VPNs and firewalls."

According to Cassim, who has substantial experience in the security arena and spent more than three years at security technology company Nanoteq, Datacentrix is in a position to align with best-of-breed partners and has chosen to strengthen its partnership with Symantec.

"By providing a total solution to South African organisations, based on best-of-breed solutions, Datacentrix can help create a single point of management for security products. This carries cost-saving and efficiency implications for users, with only one provider to be held accountable."

Cassim maintains that the Datacentrix Security Division will initially leverage off solid relationships with existing customers, where the organisation has established a track record of excellence of service.

"We are, however, looking to extend our reach to new clients wanting top-notch security solutions," he says.
