Department of Justice contracts Datacentrix in R71m server deal

Johannesburg, 20 May 2002

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Constitutional Development has awarded Datacentrix the provision and support of the server backbone for its Digital Nervous System (DNS) across SA. This HP server installation forms the basis of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory and Exchange 2000 Intel-based implementation, which is hosted by SITA and ensures that all clients have access to all of the DOJ`s business applications.

According to Rainer Jeske, business development director at Datacentrix, the objective of the implementation was to ensure a faster, more efficient and more secure justice process. "The mission-critical nature of the department`s legal processes required a solution of the highest standard, based on proven technology, and which allows for sufficient scalability to meet the its requirements.

"The selection of HP was a good choice for the Department of Justice, in terms of the technology`s strong growth, world-class standing and quality offering," says Jeske. The decision to implement a cluster solution, which would ensure 98% uptime for the department, was reached after lengthy negotiations with the DOJ and Datacentrix HP technical specialists.

The project, which included related storage and back-up systems with automated uninterruptible power supplies, incorporated the rollout of 300 servers nationwide, with implementations at the nine provincial capitals commencing late last year. The department has also entered into a service level agreement with Datacentrix to guarantee the availability of such a mission critical business system for the next three years.
