New netViz Professional, webView versions available in SA

Johannesburg, 09 Jul 2002

NetViz Corporation, exclusively represented in SA by Datacentrix, has unveiled the newest versions of its flagship product, netViz Professional 6.0 and Web publishing software, webView 3.5.

A network-diagramming and data visualisation tool, netViz uses data-embedded graphics to make hierarchical diagrams that integrate graphics, data and relationship information across a complex system. Unlike simple diagramming tools, it allows easy linking to an enterprise`s existing data. Also, instead of creating flat diagrams that can only be viewed one at a time, it creates a comprehensive, enterprise-wide view of all of the infrastructure information important to a business.

With the new release, netViz introduces a significantly enhanced library of vendor-specific network graphics that users can incorporate into their netViz network diagrams. Not only will netViz ship with its own collection of over 10 000 generic and vendor-specific network icons, but under a teaming agreement with Altima Technologies, maker of NetZoom business symbols, an additional 10 000-symbol sample collection of NetZoom graphics will be included with every licence of netViz 6.0.

NetViz 6.0 also allows users to drag-and-drop additional graphics into diagrams from virtually any source, including other applications and Web pages.

Says Bernise Bates, senior account manager at Datacentrix: "NetViz has users all over the globe who want to document a wide variety of IT networks and other enterprise systems. In the past, if a user needed a specialised graphic, they had to send a request so that the object could be created. Now all that`s required is a drag-and-drop to the netViz desktop, meaning that users no longer have to wait for custom graphics and don`t have to use icons that don`t precisely meet their needs."

NetViz 6.0 contains many other powerful information-management features including data-query capabilities and the ability to publish data-embedded diagrams over the Web. By simply linking existing enterprise databases to netViz graphical objects, users can see and graphically manage large amounts of complex information.

WebView 3.5, the new version of the Web publishing software, not only allows browsers to zoom in on data-embedded netViz diagrams from a browser, but also includes enhanced search functionality.

First introduced in 2000, netViz webView allows netViz users to publish diagrams to the Web with a single click from the netViz desktop. When the project is ready for viewing, an integrated e-mail component automatically sends the project`s publisher and all authorised viewers a link to the project. When viewing a Web-published netViz project, users can drill down through complex hierarchies, perform data searches, traverse links across vast systems and see object data right from their browsers. Version 3.5 of webView contains many significant enhancements, including embedded external documents, a zoom-in tool and enhanced search functionality.

Says Bates: "With webView, it`s easy to share information across an organisation. If changes need to be made, users can merely modify the project and republish it. They can also document corporate IT infrastructure and instantly make the graphics and data available to every member of the IT team around the globe for tech support, configuration management or troubleshooting."
