Datacentrix has successfully completed the implementation of HP E-PC desktops at production company, Rapid Blue, allowing the organisation to upgrade to Windows XP, while dramatically improving the processing power needed to run the large number of applications necessary in this type of environment.
Kevin Taskes, IT manager of Rapid Blue, explains: "In our line of business, we need to maintain a high level of hardware performance to support the software utilised in the production of television programming, including editing and digitising, and graphic design work.
"Servicing a number of blue-chip clients, including M-Net, M-Web and Vodacom, only reinforces the need for quality, reliable hardware and the resultant rapid processing of tasks for our customers.
"We selected the E-PCs to replace our existing range because they met our stringent performance requirements, which included a Pentium 4 processor as minimum," he explains.
"Rapid Blue`s existing installed base had aged and needed to be upgraded to accommodate the company`s move from Windows 95 and 98 to XP," says Paul de Reuk, account manager at Datacentrix. "The E-PC model provided good value for money, with a small form factor and a high level of technology."
Rapid Blue`s IT team, as well as the company`s production and financial managers are all using the E-PCs. Says Taskes: "Our users had to adapt to a more secure system, but are already seeing advantages in the increased stability and faster processing. We have seen a definite decrease in day-to-day PC problems and errors since the roll-out."
The project had very tight timelines, and was rolled out well within these limits: within two-and-a-half weeks. "We have also arranged a service level agreement (SLA) with Datacentrix ensuring next-day repairs," adds Taskes.
