SANParks kicks off R2.5m infrastructure project

Johannesburg, 26 Feb 2003

South African National Parks (SANParks), an organisation that manages a system of 20 national parks including the Kruger, Cape Peninsula, Addo, Kgalagadi and Golden Gate, has appointed Datacentrix to implement a storage area network (SAN) to provide it with efficient storage management and redundancy on its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

As part of the ERP roll-out, Datacentrix will install two large Microsoft SQL 2000 servers for SANParks` Great Plains installation, integrate its legacy systems and provide redundancy for the ERP installation. Datacentrix also provided the infrastructure for a new human resources and reservation system.

According to Datacentrix divisional director, Gerhard Gouws, Datacentrix was selected because of its presentation of an HP infrastructure solution that not only complemented the ERP solution, but also provided an infrastructure for SANParks to expand its current environment at a later stage. Datacentrix`s BEE initiatives also played a significant role in the decision.

Says Gouws: "Our recommended solution creates a highly redundant, secure environment with no downtime. This will be critical for the SANParks online booking system, where accommodation can be reserved and camps managed electronically."

In addition to the new systems, Datacentrix is also providing SANParks with Citrix thin-client servers to expand the current Citrix farm, as well as an HP tape library for the organisation to backup its data.
