IDC completes multimillion-rand IT roll-out

Johannesburg, 06 Aug 2003

As part of the three-year, multimillion-rand contract signed with the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC), Datacentrix has supplied and implemented HP servers as well as a storage area network (SAN) and backup solution.

The project has been running in conjunction with the organisation`s SAP implementation. The project, which was started in 2001, has seen the complete roll-out of the servers and SAN, with the IDC also going live with the HR, FI and Treasury modules of SAP R/3.

Aside from these implementations, says Albert Doyoyo, IDC operations manager, the organisation also had additional technical requirements for its document management and trade finance systems, storage, tapes for backup, and a few other accessories for the servers and SAN to improve performance, all of which were supplied by Datacentrix.

"We have been able to continue with this project without any delay due to the timely delivery of hardware and resolution of problems," he adds. "Our relationship with Datacentrix is that of a partnership. We work as one team and it is this that has ensured the smooth running of the project. They are at all times ready to help and have become a part of the IDC community."

Says Gertrude Nkosi, account manager at Datacentrix: "The servers and SAN projects have provided the IDC with a solid infrastructure, a critical component of day-to-day activities for such an organisation.

"Our strong relationship with HP and status as their largest local partner has played an important role in the successful implementation of the IDC project," she continues. "As an HP Platinum Partner, Datacentrix is well positioned to provide its customers with leading-edge server and storage technology backed by the support of HP."
